is the Distinguished Professor of Law, Horace O. Coil Chair in Litigation, at the University of California- Hastings College of Law. He is a lead author of the West casebooksĀ Complex LitigationĀ (5th ed. 2010) andĀ Civil Procedure: A Modern ApproachĀ (6th ed. 2013). He is also an author of several volumes of theĀ Federal Practice & ProcedureĀ treatise (known as Wright & Miller) and serves on a variety of committees dealing with practice issues. Since 1996, he has served as Associate Reporter to the Advisory Committee on Civil Rules of the Judicial Conference of the United States.
