Jon O. Newman is a senior judge of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Second Circuit. He was chief judge from 1993-97. Prior to his appointment in 1979, he was a district judge of the District Court for the District of Connecticut, U. S. Attorney for Connecticut, and assistant to Abraham Ribicoff when Ribicoff was Governor of Connecticut, Secretary of Health, Education and Welfare, and  U.S. Senator. He is the 2016 recipient of the Devitt Award, the federal judiciary’s highest honor, and the author of a memoir, Benched (2017), co-author (with Harold Newman) of A Genealogical Chart of Greek Mythology (2003), and co-author (with Abraham Ribicoff) of Politics – the American Way (1963).
